What does it do?

So what does this bot do exactly?

What the bot does at the moment is just report BF2 game events to IRC. That's pretty much it.

The question "What will the bot be able to do?" is a little more exciting.

Read on if I have your interest ...

With regards to admin features ... the admin features that have been hinted at are currently reliant on having some highlight/triggers in your own IRC client so that when someone on the server calls for "admin", and the bot is showing chat events too, then your client will alert you with the standard beeping or flashing that occurs when a highlight happens. I have quickly played with sending an rcon command through the bot and that worked fine, so there will be some form of rcon control over the server from IRC as well. On top of this, there will also be a plugin for the bot that can alert people on IRC when a certain name is used (eg: admin_needed), or a score falls below a configured limit.

The end result of all of this being that an admin / clan member only needs to watch IRC to get some idea of what is going on and can act from there.

There are also numerous other plugins that will be made available that can do things such as query basic info from game servers, leave messages for people, create your own info "commands", and also one to ask for BF2Stats as well. This is just a sample of what can be done with it.

The bot core is a plugin framework called PPF that has been around for some time now. There has been a lot of work recently and a beta is running with updated and new plugins. This is what BF2Bot is ... a PPF plugin running the new beta PPF bot.

Hopefully, this is enough to catch your interest and fire your imagination on what is already possible and what can be done with this system.

Very interesting read. Looking forward to upcoming releases :)
Oh and we have our server now, so when I get some spare time from studies I will see if I can't get it up and running there :P
